Publicly Funded Services

The New Zealand government offers free speech-language therapy, but wait times can be long. Those with greater needs are prioritised. Services may have eligibility criteria, age restrictions, and funding limitations.

For more information on publically funded services, visit our  Whānau page.

Private Pay Services

Private services are available for those who prefer quicker access, more frequent sessions, or extended therapy periods and can afford to pay.

Search for the Private Practice directory below and contact services directly.

Choosing a *registered NZSTA member assures that they meet the ethical and professional standards you expect when seeking help. Registered speech-language therapists practice according to the ethical values and principles of the NZSTA Code of Ethics, which protects clients’ privacy and safety and ensures they participate in continuous professional development.

Speech-language therapists' specialised knowledge and skills enable them to offer clients an individualised experience.

All private services listed on this page are owned or operated by speech-language therapists holding a current practising certificate and/or have certified that all the speech-language therapists practising in their service hold a current annual practising certificate.

If you are thinking about engaging in a service that is not listed here, we recommend you ask them directly to confirm that the speech-language therapist assigned to you holds a current annual practising certificate. You can verify this for yourself by searching the speech-language therapist’s name using the Registered Member Directory below.

Finding More Information

Click on potential speech-language therapists and find their full contact details, a short bio, and a list of services they offer.  Contact the therapist to check their availability and get a sense of how they seem to you. Do they sound like a potential “right fit” for your needs? Therapists are happy to talk with inquirers and answer questions.

If you are using public and private services, ensure your therapists collaborate for continuous care.

Always ask your speech-language therapist about both funded and non-funded treatment options.
