In this session, we will unpack cultural beliefs, family experiences, and the unique factors that shape how autism is understood in the Indian community.
The session will be interactive, as we seek to understand these cultural perspectives and think about how we can best support Indian families in a way that feels respectful and culturally responsive.
About our speaker:
Shalini is an SLT currently working for the Christchurch MoE. She has a special interest in neurodiversity‑affirming practice, culturally responsive intervention, and early communication development. She is passionate about supporting the Indian community through informed, empathetic, and strengths‑based perspectives.
What is the Clinical Spotlight Series?
The NZSTA Clinical Spotlight Webinar Series is a professional development initiative that showcases the expertise of speech-language therapists across Aotearoa New Zealand.
The series provides an accessible platform for members to share key insights from their research and clinical practice, connect with colleagues, and contribute to our profession’s shared learning. Sessions are typically 45–60 minutes, including time for questions and discussion.
The initiative reflects NZSTA’s commitment to creating opportunities for clinicians to learn, connect, and share knowledge, particularly at a time when funding for continuing professional development is limited.
