Participants will learn and reflect on the restorative function of supervision. This discussion will review the impact of our work on our well-being. Participants will learn about how a restorative model of supervision sustains us in our mahi. Participants will leave this discussion with ideas for incorporating restorative elements into supervision for their supervisees while reflecting on their own supervision. Let’s make some chicken soup together!
Our speakers:
Dr Philippa Friary is the Director of Clinical Education for the Masters in Speech Language Therapy Practice programme at The University of Auckland. Philippa is a professional supervisor of Speech- language Therapists and other professions and sits on the Supervision Collective Aotearoa committee. Philippa has recently been awarded her PhD, a realist-informed longitudinal study that explored interprofessional communication among allied health new graduates. From this research, she has developed an education and practice framework for speaking up and a supervision model. She develops and facilitates workshops across New Zealand for supervisors of students and qualified clinicians on professional supervision in healthcare and education. Philippa has been engaged in research on professional supervision for over 15 years and regularly presents this research at New Zealand and international conferences. She has a particular interest in relational and restorative supervision. Philippa believes that quality supervision is essential for all Speech-language Therapists.
Kristina Pinto (Tangata Tiriti, German) is a speech-language therapist originally trained in Germany who has worked for the Ministry of Education on the East Coast of New Zealand since 2002. A dedicated practitioner at heart, Kristina views supervision as a supportive and restorative space, which offers to opportunity to facilitate reflection on practice, challenge the status quo, and strategically plan next steps.
In her private practice, Kristina provides professional supervision to speech-language therapists across New Zealand and internationally. Her expertise spans various frameworks, including support for new graduates, return-to-work pathways, and Board-imposed supervision. Committed to her own growth, she continually refines her skills through ongoing professional development and the acquisition of specialized micro-credentials.
