Tauranga Special School – Speech-language Therapist
- Maternity Leave - 0.6 FTE for up to a year (to be determined) from 16 June 2025
- Base School and including satellite classes in the greater Tauranga area
About this role
As a Speech Language Therapist you will play a critical role in our school team by:-
- Supporting students' communication and eating, drinking, and swallowing needs in the context of their education setting and community.
- Working closely with parents, caregivers, teachers, therapists, and other specialists to help support our students with the development of speech, language, and communication skills and maximise/develop safe eating, drinking, and swallowing.
- Working holistically as part of a trans-disciplinary team where needs can be complex.
About you
To be successful you will need:
- A Bachelor or Master's degree in Speech-language Therapy and have a current practising certificate with the New Zealand Speech-language Therapists Association.
- Specialist knowledge of theory, research and practice related to eating, drinking, swallowing, speech, language, augmentative communication systems, child and human development, and learning and behaviour.
- To be able to deliver services to a diverse range of students and work to the Ministry of Education Service Standards. You will develop and implement speech and language therapy programmes that work across the school day to support access to the school curriculum for individuals and groups.
- A clean driver’s licence and a vehicle.
- Be a NZ citizen or resident or have a current Work Visa
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and an ability to work effectively with children, young people, and their families, as well as with teachers, teacher aides, and other community agencies.
- The ability to understand and apply the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and tangata whenuatanga.
