We have a 12 month fixed term, maternity leave cover opportunity for an experienced Speech-Language Therapist looking to take the next step in their career. Reporting to the Practice Lead of the Speech-Language Therapy team, you will be joining a small but passionate and highly enthusiastic team of SLTs who work in a multidisciplinary team with Behaviour and Health Advisors. The SLT team strives to design and deliver sector-changing communication and dysphagia services to adults with intellectual disabilities. In this role you will have the support and flexibility to work in an innovative way, and take part is service and sector projects. In the role you will provide specialized communication and dysphagia assessment, advice, guidance and training. No two days will be the same, you will be: 

 

  • reviewing and updating communication and mealtime plans 
  • supporting complex decision making  
  • implementing AAC (alternative and augmentative communication strategies).  
  • responding to referrals for teams and individuals  
  • providing training and coaching to staff 
  • working across the organisation to increase accessibility of information, and embed communication support into all aspects of support 
  • liaising with external agencies. 

 

As the role is a mobile role, you will be provided with a car, laptop and phone. We're moving towards more flexible working arrangements so talk to us about what that looks like for you.  

  

You will have a tertiary qualification in Speech Language Therapy and either be a current member of the New Zealand Speech-language Therapy Association or eligible for membership. 

The ideal applicant will have: 

  • Minimum of 2 years clinical experience  
  • Experience supporting people with intellectual/developmental disabilities   
  • Experience working with AAC, and complex dysphagia  
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills 
  • Skill and knowledge of adult learning and an interest in coaching and supporting the development of others 
  • A high level of emotional maturity and person-centeredness 
  • Highly motivated and able to take initiative for your own learning 
  • Full New Zealand driver's licence is essential.
