SLT's understanding and perspectives of ableism and anti-ableism in Aotearoa NZ
Posted in:
You are invited to participate in a research study investigating current perspectives on ableism and anti-ableism in the speech and language therapy profession. This study is being conducted by Rhiannon Mason from the University of Canterbury ׀ Te Whare Wānanga o Waitaha (UC). Other research team members include Dean Sutherland, Kenny Ardouin, and Rosie Lamb. The study is being carried out as a requirement for the Master of Science in Speech and Language Sciences (SPSC695).
What is the purpose of this research?
This research aims to investigate current knowledge and perceptions of ableism and anti-ableism in the speech and language therapy profession. I am interested in finding out about current clinicians’ beliefs and experiences regarding ableism and inclusion in all facets of speech and language therapy, across a range of clinical settings. My hope is that this research will contribute valuable information to a growing body of research in anti-ableism, with a set of recommendations for future research in this area and next steps to improve the experiences of people with differences and disabilities that speech-language therapists work with.
