Wellington Community Aphasia Advisor (CAA) Wanted

2020

AphasiaNZ is a New Zealand-wide charity providing an expert field officer service, resources, education and information to people with aphasia acquired after stroke, brain injury, brain tumour and PPA.  Aphasia is more common than Parkinson’s disease and every day in New Zealand, 7 people acquire aphasia from stroke alone.

AphasiaNZ’s office is based in Tauranga, and we have CAAs working across New Zealand’s main centres.  CAAs receive supervision, support and guidance  from our Community Aphasia Advisor Practice Supervisor (CAAPS).  As well as providing resources and information to those new to aphasia, CAAs facilitate communication groups and local activities, and educate our communities about the nature and effects of aphasia. We are looking for a CAA in the Wellington  region.

We a seeking an SLT for this part-time, flexible, contracted role.  Although this is not an SLT role as AphasiaNZ does not provide therapy it is suited to someone with an SLT background. Alternatively the role would suit someone with a medical/health background, or a newly-graduated SLT/SLP who has an interest in increasing awareness and knowledge of communication difficulties.

We are looking for someone with:

  •   A knowledge of the nature and effects of communication impairments, specifically aphasia;
  •   An understanding of services available in our communities for people affected by disabilities;
  •   Excellent written and verbal communication skills and attention to detail;
  •   Enthusiasm and flexibility,
  •   Their own car,
  •   Computer literacy – proficient at using Apple devices/iPads.

If you are looking for opportunity to use your skills to make a positive difference to the lives of those living with aphasia, we’d like to hear from you.

Email tauranga@aphasia.org.nz for more information.

Applications are open until Friday 10 July 2020.
